Career guidance at DCM

At the Department of Clinical Medicine, career guidance is provided by the hiring superior. If the hiring superior is unable to conduct the guidance interview, or a second opinion is needed, both you and your superior can contact the relevant career ambassador.

Guidance on the next career step

If the guidance concerns the possibility of employment at the next career step, the career interview is based on three central documents used in employment: ‘Criteria for appointment’, ‘Template for applicant’ and ‘Assessment template’. The department management and the extended management team have jointly adopted the procedure below:

  1. Read the Criteria for appointment for the desired position type, @VIP
  2. Complete the relevant Template for applicant, @VIP
  3. Send the completed template to the hiring superior (or deputy head of department cf. the career ambassador scheme), @VIP
  4. Give yourself grades between 1 and 3 @VIP, cf. the template used by the assessment committees - named Template for assessment
  5. Ask your superior (or deputy head of department) to do the same. Then you will have something substantial to talk about when you meet

More informal guidance

If you are not ready to fill out templates or embark on a formal process, you can instead have a chat with one of the VIPs who have agreed to be career ambassadors at DCM. They are happy to talk to colleagues who are, for example, considering whether a research career is even the right thing for them – or are in other stages of consideration.

Check out the profiles on the career ambassadors site and reach out to the one you most closely resemble for a more informal discussion about your options.

These are used by the assessment committees when hiring, and there is good learning in assessing yourself.
