A research assistant is a scientific position where you can develop an independent clinical research profile. You are employed for a maximum of three years, regardless of whether you are employed full-time or part-time. Research assistant is not a career position, and you are not entitled to be offered specific career development opportunities. This position is often used before you start your PhD.
The position CANNOT be applied for if you have a PhD, unless it is an employment period of six months or less, or it is immediately following your PhD.
How do you become a research assistant?
Most research assistant at the Department of Clinical Medicine (DCM) have created their positions themselves, funded by external, so-called earmarked funds. This always happens in close collaboration with a hiring manager. Some research assistants at DCM have been hired because they applied for an advertised position.

Before moving forwards - are the prerequisites in place?
You and/or your hiring manager need to find approximately 486,000 DKK per year (AU's 2025 figures) for a full-time research assistant position. Some combine their Postdoc position with a clinical position and are thus employed part-time. However, you must be employed at least one day a week (7.4 hours per week) as a research assistant.
