The faculty’s scholarship grants for research years are being discontinued
Research year students will no longer be able to apply for scholarship grants from Health. All applicants must now secure external funding before applying.

The Research Year at Health
- The Research Year is a 12-month full-time research programme for students studying medicine or dentistry who wish to delve into a specific topic and gain practical experience in health science research.
- Students have the opportunity to combine the project with a bachelor's or master's thesis, which can help lay a strong foundation for a potential PhD project.
- Throughout the program, students receive continuous supervision and training in research methods.
- The application deadline will henceforth be in mid-May and mid-November, with enrollment on February 1st or September 1st.

Is one or more of your students a candidate for a research year? Then you and your students should be aware of an important change.
As of this year, it will no longer be possible to apply for faculty scholarships for the research year.
Until now, the faculty has awarded 20 scholarships annually, but due to necessary budget cuts at Aarhus University Research Foundation (AUFF), this opportunity is being discontinued.
For students considering the research year, this means that they must have secured external funding before applying, and, as before, the department head must guarantee this funding.
Most students will not be affected
The faculty offers a total of 112 research year positions, and the vast majority of students already fund their research year through external grants.
“It is, of course, unfortunate that the faculty scholarships are being discontinued, but researchers are already accustomed to securing external funding for their research activities,” says Vice Dean for Research Per Höllsberg.
New process and deadlines
To make the application process for the research year easier, it has been updated.
Among other things, the application deadlines have been moved to mid-May and mid-November (instead of April 15 and October 15).
The new application forms and guidelines will be available on The Graduate School's website from April 1.
Moving forward, the relevant research education program director will assess the applications.
If there are more qualified applicants than available positions, the bachelor’s degree GPA will be the decisive factor in the selection process.
