Nyhedsbrev / Newsletter October 2022
Nyheder og information fra instituttet / News and information from the department
See English below
Læs mere om programmet for årsmødet her.
Tilmelding sker via linket her.
Ny viceinstitutleder for uddannelse
Frist for indstillinger d. 21. november 2022.
- Tirsdag 22. nov. Kl. 13:00-14:30 Session 1 (Målrettet Institut for Biomedicin)
- Tirsdag 22. nov. Kl. 15:00-16:30 Session 2 (Målrettet Institut for Klinisk Medicin)
- Torsdag 24. nov.
Venlig hilsen

Dear All
Once again it is time for a newsletter -This October newsletter contains information about a conference that focuses on some of the challenges with equality and sexism that we face at the Department of Clinical Medicine. You will also be able to read about the fifth edition of the Annual Research Meeting, Health's Student Research Award and a new journaling system.
Attend conference on sexism
As you know, we at IKM are working on the follow-up to the large KVINFO investigation, which revealed both cultural and structural challenges around discrimination based on gender and sexism at the department.
In this connection, I would like to draw attention to the conference "Sexism in Organizations", which will take place on November 26 in the Nobel Hall at Aarhus University. We have succeeded in keeping the price for participation down to DKK 100 and DKK 50 for students, i.a. secondly because the conference is held with financial support from the Department of Clinical Medicine. I see the conference as a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of some of the complicated issues that we face at the department. Read more about the conference and the list of presenters via the link here. Registration is open on a first-come, first-served basis. The deadline for registration is October 26.
Come to the housewarming in IKM's new headquarters
We would like to invite the departments employees together with closest business partners to a small housewarming in our new premises in the Forum building, where the secretariat moved to the 10th floor last month. It will take place on October 31 from 1pm to 3pm, where attendees can look forward to a little refreshment and a tour of the new premises. It is fantastic that a large part of the departments activities are now together, but the space is limited and for the sake of organizing the event, registration is required for participation. You will soon receive an invitation with a registration link.
Find out more about each other's research at the annual meeting
Remember to mark November 24, 2022, when we will hold the fifth edition of the Annual Research Meeting. Again this year, the event will be held in the large Auditorium A and the staff canteen at Aarhus University Hospital. On the day, a large number of researchers will present their work in the form of both presentations, flash talks and poster presentations, and the annual meeting is generally a golden opportunity to learn more about all the ground-breaking research that takes place at the institute. Read more about the program for the annual meeting here. All researchers associated with IKM are invited, and it is free to participate. The deadline for registration is November 1. Registration takes place via the link here.
New deputy head of education
Professor Anders Bonde Jensen has from October 1 joined the department management as new deputy head of education, where he during a transition period will share the position with Niels Uldbjerg, who next year will resign from the post. Anders Bonde Jensen comes from the cancer department and has for many years been a course leader in the 2nd semester of the master's degree. That - combined with the drive and commitment - is among the things that give Anders the perfect prerequisites to become a good deputy head of education, and I look forward to the collaboration. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Niels UIdbjerg, who has been in the position since 2018, for good sparring in the department management.
Health Student Research Award 2023
If you are the supervisor of a student who has distinguished himself through particularly excellent written work, you now have the opportunity to nominate him for Health's Student Research Award 2023.
The award was founded by the Academic Council with the aim of celebrating and making visible the breadth of student research in Health. Supervisors from all departments are therefore encouraged to nominate a talented student, research year student or candidate PhD student. The work for which the prize can be awarded can take many forms (thesis, article, annual research report, bachelor's thesis, etc.) and must be completed during the study period. Deadline for nominations November 21 2022. Read more about who can be nominated, how you do it, and what criteria are used as a basis for the assessment: https://health.medarbejdere.au.dk/udnandelseomraadet/undervising-og- exam/teacher-and-student-awards/health-student-research-award/
Documents and case files must be journalized in the new system
In order to be sure that AU meets the requirements for journaling, the university management has decided that all so-called business-critical administrative documentation must in future be stored in the Workzone system.
The majority of our documentation required to be journalized is already journalized in Workzone by the administrative units; Finance, HR, Purchasing and Studies. At the department, we have for some time been in the process of mapping which units and departments have material that needs to be journalized in Workzone. The next step is to implement the system in the respective units and departments that have documentation required to be recorded, which is not already recorded. You will hear more about this during the autumn. Let me emphasize right now that there is no reason to panic, as you will all be given a detailed introduction to the system. In the meantime, you can read more about Workzone here.
Who will take the 3R prize 2022?
The deadline is approaching for nominations for the 3R prize, which each year goes to a PhD student who has actively made an effort to spare laboratory animals in his work. The award was established to raise awareness of the importance of the 3 R's - Replacement, Refinement and Reduction. Translated, this means that you should not use experimental animals if you can investigate your area by other means, that you should ensure that the experimental animal suffers as little as possible during the experiment, and that you should not use more animals than necessary. If you know a PhD student who has implemented one or more of the 3 R's in a research project, you can nominate that person for the 3R award 2022. Nominations must be received no later than Friday November 25, and it is Health's Animal Welfare Committee that selects the winner.
Health must attract more Marie Curie postdocs – are you ready?
Dr. Caroline Ang from British WisbAng Research Development is known to be very good at writing funding applications. Over the next year, together with a colleague – Laura Wisby – she will help Health fulfil our ambition to get more postdocs through the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships program.
The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships program supports postdocs who want to develop their careers internationally. If you are a research leader at Health, it is a great opportunity to get in contact with ambitious talents from all over the world.
The first step on the way is three sessions in November aimed at associate professors and professors who are considering hiring a foreign postdoc.
Save the date:
- Tuesday 22 Nov. At 13:00-14:30 Session 1 (Targeted Department of Biomedicine)
- Tuesday 22 Nov. At 15:00-16:30 Session 2 (Targeted Department of Clinical Medicine)
- Thursday 24 Nov. At 11:00-12:30 Session 3 (Targeted Department of Public Health, Department of Forensic Medicine and IOOS)
(You are welcome to attend the session that fits best in your calendar, regardless of department affiliation).
The EU’s deadline for application to the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships is September 2023. The new postdocs are suspected to be hired in summer 2024.
More information and registration link will follow later.
Best regards
Jørgen Frøkiær
